“No Lady on Trial for Converting to Christianity in Our State” – Zamfara Government
The Zamfara State Government has firmly denied claims circulating online that a woman named Zainab Muhamadu is facing trial in a Sharia Court for converting from Islam to Christianity. In a statement issued on Wednesday by Sulaiman Bala Idris, spokesperson to the state governor, the government described the reports as false, malicious, and designed to incite religious tension.
The state government said it had conducted thorough checks with relevant authorities, including the Grand Khadi of the Zamfara Sharia Court of Appeal, and confirmed that no such case exists or has ever existed in the state. Idris said the story originated from social media and was amplified by a platform known for publishing unverified information.
According to the government, the image used in the fake report was of a woman named Aalia from Texas, United States, who has no connection to Nigeria. Officials believe the story is part of a deliberate attempt to disrupt peace in Zamfara and stir religious unrest.
“This is the handiwork of enemies of peace, who are bent on creating tension where there is none,” the statement read. “It is a classic example of yellow journalism. We call on security agencies to investigate the source of this fabricated story and ensure those behind it are brought to justice.”
The government urged media outlets and the public to rely only on verified information and avoid spreading sensational stories that could threaten national unity.
