In a recent interview with the Nigeria Television Authority (NTA), former Nigerian President Muhammadu Buhari dismissed claims that his government was influenced by cabals. The 1.42-minute teaser of the interview, released on NTA’s X handle, showcased Buhari’s candid responses to questions about his time in office.
When questioned about what he misses from his presidential tenure, Buhari responded, “Miss? Oh dear me, I don’t think I miss much.” Reflecting on diplomatic relationships during his presidency, he expressed being preoccupied with local issues, stating, “I am so preoccupied with the local problems that I hardly think about the external problems.”
Addressing the persistent belief among Nigerians that cabals played a significant role in running the government during his tenure, Buhari refuted the claims, stating, “It must have been (imagination).” This statement contradicts the popular perception that influential groups had hijacked decision-making within his administration.
This interview marks Buhari’s first since leaving office on May 29, 2023. Notably, in December 2022, he had expressed eagerness to depart from the presidential role and return to his hometown, Daura in Katsina State. Buhari emphasized his intention to stay away from Abuja, the Federal Capital Territory, post-tenure, to avoid potential complications.
