No Amount is too Big to Pay for Peace – Gov Fubara
Rivers State Governor Siminalayi Fubara declared that he is willing to pay any price for peace in the state, amidst the lingering political strife between him and his predecessor, Nyesom Wike.
Since assuming office in May, Governor Fubara has grappled with a political crisis, culminating in an impeachment plot initiated by the state assembly in October. The power struggle between Fubara and Wike, who currently serves as the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), has intensified in recent weeks over control of the state’s political structure.
Recall that ten members of Fubara’s cabinet, including the attorney-general and commissioner of works, resigned amid the escalating political tensions. However, a turning point emerged on Monday when all parties involved in the crisis, including Fubara and Wike, met with President Bola Tinubu. The resulting eight-point resolution emphasized the immediate withdrawal of all court cases and the cessation of impeachment proceedings against the governor.
Addressing the convocation at Pamo University in Iriebe, Obio/Akpor LGA, Governor Fubara expressed his dedication to fostering peace in the state. “There is no amount that is too big for peace. I will continue to pay it,” he declared, emphasizing his commitment to playing a pivotal role in resolving the ongoing turmoil.
The governor’s unwavering stance on prioritizing peace suggests a potential turning point in Rivers State’s political landscape, raising hopes for a resolution to the longstanding disputes that have gripped the state.
