NNPCL, Other Filling Stations Raise Petrol Prices Twice Within 24 Hours
The Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL) and several private filling stations have increased petrol pump prices twice within a 24-hour period, pushing retail prices higher across Abuja and other parts of the country.
Checks at NNPCL retail outlets on Thursday showed that petrol was selling at N875 per litre, up from N839 adjusted on Wednesday. The price had earlier risen from N815 per litre, marking a total increase of N60 within one day.
The new price was observed at NNPCL stations in Gwarimpa, Kubwa Express, Wuse Zone 6, Wuse Zone 4, and other areas within the Federal Capital Territory.
A filling station attendant at an NNPCL outlet, who spoke on condition of anonymity, confirmed that the latest price adjustment took effect on Thursday.
“We were informed on Wednesday night, and we began selling at N875 per litre on Thursday. Before that, we sold at N839, which had already gone up from N815,” she said.
Private marketers have also adjusted their prices upward. Filling stations operated by Ranoil, Empire Energy, and other independent marketers in Abuja now sell petrol for between N899 and N900 per litre.
At MRS filling stations, petrol prices rose by N100 per litre to N839. A manager at an MRS outlet in Abuja confirmed on Thursday that the station is currently selling at that price.
The latest increases follow a recent adjustment in ex-depot prices, after the Dangote Refinery and depot owners raised wholesale petrol prices to above N799 per litre.
The higher ex-depot costs have continued to reflect at the retail level, driving pump prices upward nationwide.
