NNPC Admits Port Harcourt Refinery Unfinished, Unveils Completion Date
In a candid disclosure, the Nigerian National Petroleum Company (NNPC) has openly acknowledged that the Port Harcourt Refinery is still a work in progress. However, the announcement comes with a silver lining as NNPC unveils a concrete completion date for the ongoing project.
During a comprehensive inspection tour, NNPC reported that the Port Harcourt Refinery, undergoing restoration for over two years, stands at 77.4% completion. Despite falling short of the 100% mark, NNPC emphasizes achieving a significant milestone with the mechanical completion of the crucial Area 5 Plant.
Mele Kyari, the Group Chief Executive Officer of NNPC Ltd., expressed satisfaction with the progress, giving credit to the dedicated workforce and contractors. The commitment is now set on fulfilling Phase One of the project, encompassing mechanical completion and flare start-up, with a targeted deadline of December 31, 2023.
This development is viewed as a positive indicator for the current administration, echoing sentiments shared by Senator Heineken Lokpobiri, the Minister of State for Petroleum Resources.
