Nine Killed, Three Injured in Lagos-Ibadan Expressway Crash
Nine people lost their lives in a fatal accident on the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway in the early hours of Monday, according to the Ogun State sector of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC). Three others sustained injuries in the crash, which occurred near the Ayetoro area of the expressway.
Florence Okpe, the Chief Route Commander and Public Education Officer of the FRSC in Ogun State, confirmed the incident in a statement issued in Abeokuta. According to her, a total of 13 individuals were involved in the accident—ten men and three women. Among them, nine people, including six men and three women, lost their lives, while three others sustained injuries.
The accident involved two vehicles: a Toyota Hiace bus with registration number UYY165ZY and a truck with registration number DKA244XC. Preliminary investigations suggest that excessive speed and driver fatigue led to a loss of control, causing the bus to crash into the stationary truck.
Emergency responders transported the injured victims to Famobis Hospital in Mowe for medical treatment, while the deceased were taken to Idera morgue in Sagamu. The FRSC Sector Commander expressed deep concern over the recklessness of some drivers who fail to adhere to speed limits and the recommended 15-minute rest break after every four-hour journey.
He extended his condolences to the families of the victims and urged them to contact the Mowe Unit Command for further information regarding the incident.
