NiMet Lists States to Experience Rainfall in Next Three Days, Issues Warning
The Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NiMet) has issued a forecast predicting moderate to heavy rainfall in various states of the country from Wednesday, June 12, to Friday, June 15. According to NiMet, this anticipated rainfall brings the risk of flash flooding and strong winds.
The affected states include Taraba, Kebbi, Niger, Kwara, Ekiti, Osun, Oyo, Ondo, Kaduna, Nasarawa, Plateau, Kogi, Edo, the FCT, and Zamfara. Residents in these areas are advised to take precautionary measures.
In addition, light to moderate rainfall is expected in parts of Akwa Ibom, Cross River, Benue, and Taraba states during the forecast period.
However, NiMet predicts very light or no rain in the rest of the country.
With the possibility of moderate to heavy rainfall, NiMet warns of potential hazards such as flash flooding and strong winds. The agency urges the public to avoid driving through surface runoff waters due to strong undercurrents, which can pose a danger to motorists.
Furthermore, slippery road surfaces and reduced visibility during the rain may disrupt road traffic, requiring extra caution from drivers.
NiMet also highlights the threat of strong winds to weak structures, trees, and communication masts. Citizens are advised to disconnect electrical appliances before the onset of rainfall to prevent damage.
While urging the public to stay informed and vigilant, NiMet emphasizes the importance of monitoring updates and adhering to safety guidelines during the forecasted rainy period.
