Night of Terror: Zamfara Village Imam Killed, Dozens Abducted by Terrorists Post-Prayers
Terrorists have launched a devastating attack on Keita village situated in the Tsafe Local Government Area of Zamfara State. The assailants targeted the village shortly after the conclusion of the night congregational prayer on Tuesday, leaving behind a trail of death and destruction.
Reports confirm the death of the Chief Imam of the Central Mosque in Keita village, Sheikh Ahmad Rufa’i, as a result of the attack. Additionally, scores of villagers were abducted by the terrorists, plunging the community into despair and uncertainty.
Eyewitness Ibrahim Musa Keita recounted the harrowing moments, stating that the terrorists descended upon the village following earlier sightings along the Kwarin Gano-Keita Road. Initially intending to abduct travelers along the route, the attackers shifted their focus to Keita village, where they unleashed violence, claiming lives and tearing families apart.
The exact number of individuals abducted remains unconfirmed, as some residents sought refuge in nearby bushes to evade capture. This tragic incident echoes similar acts of violence that have plagued Zamfara State in recent weeks, including the killing of Chief Imam Abubakar Hassan Mada in Mada village.
Further reports indicate that the terror extends beyond Keita village, with two individuals reportedly abducted from Magazu village within the same local government area. Witnesses described a scene of chaos and fear as armed gunmen stormed the village in the early hours of the morning, prompting residents to flee for safety.
Efforts to obtain official confirmation and comments from the Zamfara State Police authorities have been met with delays. Despite assurances from the Police Public Relations Officer, ASP Abubakar Yazid, no concrete information has been provided regarding the incidents at the time of this report.
