“Nigerians should thank God, fuel prices in Nigeria are better than Kenya, other African countries” — Tinubu
President Bola Tinubu says Nigeria’s petrol prices remain lower than those in Kenya and several other African countries, even as Nigerians continue to face rising living costs.
He made the statement on Thursday in Yenagoa during the commissioning of projects, where he addressed public concerns over fuel price increases and broader economic pressure.
Tinubu acknowledged the strain on households but maintained that Nigeria’s situation is comparatively better than that of some other countries on the continent.
“I hear you on the economy; fuel prices are biting hard,” he said. “But look around; let’s thank God that we are better off than those in Kenya and other African countries.”
Market figures show petrol in Kenya selling at about $1.37 per litre (around ₦1,862). In Nigeria, pump prices have recently ranged between ₦1,290 and ₦1,350 per litre.
The recent increases have been linked to fluctuations in global crude oil prices, which have hovered between $95 and $100 per barrel, alongside repeated adjustments by fuel marketers, depot operators, and local refineries over the past weeks.
