Nigerian Tourist Arrested in Thailand for Online Prostitution
Thai Tourist Police have arrested a 21-year-old Nigerian man, identified as Mr. John, for allegedly offering sexual services through an online platform. The arrest took place on Wednesday, December 11, 2024, near Thephasadin Stadium in Bangkok’s Pathum Wan district.
According to authorities, Mr. John, whose real name was withheld, was advertising his services online and charging 12,000 baht. During questioning, he admitted that the income was intended to supplement his expenses during his stay in Thailand.
The arrest followed an investigation based on intelligence reports about his activities. Undercover officers contacted Mr. John through the Line messaging app, arranging a meeting at the stadium. Once the payment was discreetly exchanged, officers moved in to apprehend him. His mobile phone, containing evidence of the discussions, was seized during the operation.
Mr. John arrived in Thailand as a tourist via Suvarnabhumi Airport on October 21, 2024, with his visa allowing him to stay until December 19, 2024. He admitted to engaging in the illegal activity as a side business while visiting the country.
The suspect has been charged with soliciting prostitution and is currently held at Pathum Wan police station. Authorities are investigating whether he acted alone or as part of a larger network.
Thai police have called on the public to report any suspicious activities as they continue efforts to eliminate illegal operations that damage the nation’s reputation.
