Nigerian Student Dies in UK Months After Earning Degree from Teesside University
A Nigerian student, Edidion Effiong Okokon, has passed away in the United Kingdom, five months after completing his degree at Teesside University.
Okokon, who arrived in the UK in January 2023 to pursue his studies, was described by friends and members of the Nigerian community as a bright and ambitious young man full of dreams for the future. Unfortunately, his academic journey was soon overshadowed by health challenges after he was diagnosed with a severe lung disease.
Despite undergoing treatment and showing resilience throughout his illness, Okokon passed away peacefully on October 17, 2025. He had successfully earned his degree in May 2025, just months before his death.
Friends and members of the Nigerian community in the UK are now making efforts to raise funds in his memory and to support necessary arrangements following his passing.
