Nigerian Petroleum Minister Lokpobiri Meets Dangote, NMDPRA, NNPC Heads Amidst Rift
In a crucial effort to address the ongoing challenges at the Dangote Refinery in Lagos, Nigerian Petroleum Minister, Senator Heineken Lokpobiri, convened a high-level meeting with key stakeholders. The gathering included Mr. Aliko Dangote, Chairman and CEO of Dangote Group; Mr. Farouk Ahmed, Authority Chief Executive of the Nigerian Midstream and Downstream Petroleum Regulatory Authority (NMDPRA); Mr. Gbenga Komolafe, CEO of the Nigerian Upstream Petroleum Regulatory Commission (NUPRC); and Mr. Mele Kyari, Group CEO of the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation Limited (NNPCL).
According to a statement by Nneamaka Okafor, Special Adviser on Media and Communication to the Minister, the meeting aimed to find a sustainable and lasting solution to the impasse affecting the refinery. All parties demonstrated a commitment to collaborative and proactive problem-solving.
The stakeholders expressed their gratitude to Minister Lokpobiri for his exemplary leadership and timely intervention. The Minister emphasized the importance of cooperation and synergy among all stakeholders to ensure the success and optimal performance of the oil and gas sector, which is pivotal for Nigeria’s economic growth and energy security.
Minister Lokpobiri also took to his official X (formerly Twitter) handle, stating: “The meeting was a collaborative effort to find sustainable solutions to the challenges affecting the refinery. All parties involved demonstrated a strong commitment to proactive problem-solving and expressed their gratitude for the leadership and timely intervention provided. Cooperation and synergy among all stakeholders are critical for the success and optimal performance of Nigeria’s oil and gas sector, essential for the country’s economic growth and energy security.”
This meeting marks a significant step toward resolving the challenges at the Dangote Refinery, underscoring the Minister’s dedication to fostering a conducive environment for Nigeria’s oil and gas sector.
Earlier reports from SK Blog highlighted tensions between the NMDPRA and Dangote Refinery. NMDPRA Chief Executive Farouk Ahmed raised concerns over the quality and consistency of the refinery’s output, claiming the products were inferior to imported ones and that the refinery was only 45% complete. In response, Aliko Dangote offered to sell the refinery to NNPCL, asserting his investments aimed to benefit the country and address monopoly concerns.
The House of Representatives has urged all parties to refrain from public accusations, emphasizing the need for a collaborative approach to resolve the issues.
