Nigerian Governors set to declare State of Emergency
The Nigerian Governors at the 10th Covid-19 tele-conference meeting held recently, expressed concerns on the increase in records of rape cases nationwide.
The Governors unanimously agreed to declare a state of emergency on sexual and gender based violence against women and children.
In a communique released by the Chairman of the forum and Governor of Ekiti State, Kayode Fayemi, the governors resolved to “Declares state of emergency on sexual and gender based violence. Governors strongly condemn all forms of violence against women and children and are committed to ensuring that offenders face the maximum weight of the law.”
“Call on State Governors that have not already domesticated relevant gender based protection laws to domesticate the violence Against persons (prohibition) Act, the Child’s Right Act and updated penal code to increase protection for women and children and ensure speedy investigation and prosecution of perpetrators in addition to creating sex offenders register in each state to name and shame.”
The Rape case has seriously increased within our communities and the Government needs to take drastic move to curb this nemesis. Everyone one has the right to be respected even the girl Child. Infact this has gone so wide that a bill should be pass for any rapist which should be death. By so doing, I believe every man will learn to respect his John Thomas….
