Nigerian Army Recovers Slain Soldier and Weapons After Taraba Ambush

Nigerian Army troops in Taraba State have recovered the body of a slain soldier and weapons following an ambush on a military patrol in Takum Local Government Area. The recovery comes amid ongoing search-and-rescue operations after an attack in Tyojande village, which caused casualties, according to an Army operational update.

Acting on intelligence from local residents in the Kufai Amadu area on December 17, soldiers moved toward the site of the ambush. They engaged armed elements near Ange village, about two kilometres from where the soldier’s body was later found. Superior firepower forced the attackers to flee into thick vegetation, using cattle as cover before retreating toward nearby mountainous terrain.

The pursuit led to the recovery of two AK-47 rifles, an additional item, and three empty magazines hidden in the area. Troops then conducted foot patrols through Tyojande and Yumga villages, extending operations to Ande and Nbaume communities within the Kufai Amadu axis, but encountered no further resistance.

The remains of the late Lance Corporal were confirmed recovered in the Tyojande area, while efforts continue to locate one missing soldier. The Nigerian Army reaffirmed its commitment to accounting for all personnel and preventing criminal elements from operating freely in the state.
