Nigeria@64: President Tinubu Convokes 30-Day National Youth Confab
As part of Nigeria’s 64th Independence Day celebrations, President Bola Tinubu has announced the launch of a 30-day National Youth Conference aimed at addressing the challenges facing the country’s youth. Tinubu made this announcement during his Independence Day broadcast on Tuesday, marking his second address since assuming office on May 29, 2023.
In his speech, Tinubu emphasized the importance of engaging the younger generation in shaping the future of the nation. “We cannot design a future that belongs to them without making them its architects,” the president stated, underscoring the critical role young people, who make up over 60% of Nigeria’s population, play in nation-building.
The conference, which will bring together young Nigerians from across the country, is designed to foster dialogue on key issues such as education, employment, innovation, security, and social justice. According to the president, the event will not only provide a platform for youth to voice their concerns but also allow them to actively participate in the creation of policies that directly impact their lives.
Tinubu assured that the modalities for the conference and the selection of delegates will be finalized in consultation with youth representatives. He added that the recommendations from the conference would be given thorough consideration and implemented as part of the government’s commitment to building a more inclusive and prosperous Nigeria.
The president concluded by reiterating his administration’s dedication to empowering the next generation, stating that the youth conference is a critical step in ensuring that the aspirations of Nigeria’s young people are at the forefront of the nation’s development agenda.
