Nigeria Police Force Successfully Dismantles Abuja Kidnapping Gang in Mpape Operation

In a major breakthrough, the Nigeria Police Force announced the successful neutralization of a notorious kidnapping gang operating in the Mpape Hills of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Abuja. The operation, carried out by the Police Intelligence Response Team (FIB-IRT), resulted in the elimination of the kingpin, Musa Wada (Sabo) Magaji, and several other members, as well as the destruction of their camps.

According to ACP Olumuyiwa Adejobi, the Force spokesman, the operation unfolded in the early hours of February 9, 2024, around 2:40 am, following intelligence gathered by the FIB-IRT. The team engaged in a 30-minute gun battle with the kidnappers, leaving many fatally injured. Unfortunately, one police operative sustained bullet wounds during the operation.

Magaji, alias Sabo, was identified as the mastermind behind numerous kidnapping for ransom activities, impacting areas such as Mpape and Bwari in the FCT, Kagarko in Kaduna, and Masaka and Nukun Village in Nasarawa State. His modus operandi involved targeting wealthy individuals and mobilizing armed gangs for abductions.

The successful raid on their hideout situated in the outskirts of Mpape Hills showcased the bravery of the FIB-IRT, employing a surprise assault strategy to eliminate these notorious criminals. Recovered items from the hideout included mobile phones, multiple SIM cards, charms, and hard drugs, all crucial evidence aiding ongoing investigations. Efforts are underway to recover additional arms, ammunition, and equipment used by the gang for their nefarious operations.

This significant achievement follows closely on the heels of the neutralization of Abubakar Wada, an associate of Musa Wada, on February 8, 2024, who served as a lead to their hideout. The Nigeria Police Force remains steadfast in its commitment to combating crime and ensuring the safety and security of all citizens, employing proactive measures to dismantle criminal networks and bring perpetrators of heinous crimes to justice.
