Nigeria Moves to Secure Jonathan’s Safety After Guinea-Bissau Unrest
Military and diplomatic channels in Abuja are working closely to safeguard Goodluck Jonathan following the recent coup in Guinea-Bissau, senior security sources revealed on Thursday.
According to officials familiar with the situation, Jonathan remains safe in the West African nation, where he had been on assignment before the sudden escalation of tensions. Efforts are now underway to arrange his return to Nigeria as soon as conditions allow.
Sources noted that a multinational security team—including Nigerian personnel—has been deployed in Guinea-Bissau to offer protection to Nigerian dignitaries currently in the country.
“Nigeria is taking the steps needed to guarantee their safety and support their eventual return,” a military insider said, emphasizing that the situation is being closely monitored.
