Nigeria Faces Yet Another National Power Grid Collapse: TCN Confirms Outage
The Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) has officially confirmed the collapse of the national power grid on Monday afternoon, plunging the entire country into darkness. This marks the second grid failure since mid-September, exacerbating the ongoing challenges in Nigeria’s power sector.
According to Ndidi Mbah, the TCN Public Relations Officer, the nationwide outage has affected power consumers across the nation. In a statement to Peoples Gazette, Mrs. Mbah assured that efforts to restore the national power grid were already underway. She reported that power has been successfully reinstated in the capital city, Abuja, and several other areas. “Abuja has already been restored, so have different areas. Full restoration ongoing,” she stated.
The incident adds to the woes of Nigerians already grappling with unreliable power supply. Distribution firms had previously reported a lack of bulk electricity from federal infrastructure in mid-September, leading to the first collapse. Despite these challenges, President Bola Tinubu has pledged to address the persistent power issues, emphasizing his commitment to overcoming a longstanding obstacle hindering the country’s development. The nation now awaits tangible improvements in the power sector promised by the government.
