Newly Promoted NSCDC Officer Collapses, Dies After Receiving Salary in Osun Command
A newly promoted officer of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), identified as Opatola, tragically collapsed and died shortly after receiving his salary. The officer, attached to the Iwo division in Osun State, reportedly passed away in the division’s restroom on Monday.
According to sources within the command, Opatola, who had recently been decorated following his promotion, arrived at work in good health and completed several tasks before the incident occurred. Colleagues stated that he and other officers had received their salary alerts around the same time that morning, sparking a discussion about their wages that left many feeling disappointed.
One anonymous source explained, “We all received our salary alerts simultaneously and were quite disappointed. Opatola appeared particularly troubled. He attended to a few cases before excusing himself to use the restroom.” After noticing his prolonged absence, colleagues checked the restroom and found him unresponsive. He was immediately rushed to a hospital, where he was later confirmed dead.
The sudden passing of Opatola has left the NSCDC community in mourning, with speculation that his reaction to the salary may have exacerbated an existing health condition, leading to his collapse and death.
Attempts to reach Osun Command NSCDC spokesperson, Kehinde Adeleke, for comment were unsuccessful, as calls and messages went unanswered at the time of this report.
