Newly Elected LG Chairman Dies Days After Assuming Office

Hon. Aminu Dan Hamidu, the recently elected Chairman of Bakori Local Government Area in Katsina State, has died just weeks after assuming office. He passed away on the evening of Monday, June 9, 2025. The cause of death has not been officially disclosed.

Hamidu, who assumed office in April 2025 following the February local government elections, was described by many as a dedicated public servant. His death was confirmed in a statement issued by Kaula Mohammed, Chief Press Secretary to Governor Dikko Umaru Radda.

Governor Radda expressed deep sorrow over the loss, describing the late chairman as “a loyal party man, a seasoned civil servant, and a grassroots politician who devoted his life to public service with honesty, humility, and uncommon dedication.” The governor praised Hamidu’s quiet but impactful leadership, noting that even in a short time, he demonstrated what sincere and people-centered governance could look like.

“Today, Katsina has lost one of its most committed and selfless sons,” the governor said. “Though his tenure was brief, he left behind a legacy of purpose-driven leadership and genuine commitment to community development.”

Governor Radda highlighted Hamidu’s history of service across various levels of government, emphasizing his consistent focus on the welfare of the people and his avoidance of the spotlight. He described Hamidu as someone whose actions spoke louder than words, and someone whose legacy will be remembered for its integrity and compassion.

On behalf of the government and people of Katsina State, Governor Radda extended heartfelt condolences to the late chairman’s family, the people of Bakori, and members of the All Progressives Congress (APC) across the state. “May Almighty Allah forgive his shortcomings and grant him Aljannatul Firdausi,” he prayed.
