New APC Ward Executives in Kano Emerge, Suspend Ganduje Amid Party Turmoil
The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Kano State is undergoing another upheaval, as a new set of ward executives has emerged, leading to a fresh suspension of the party’s National Chairman, Abdullahi Umar Ganduje. This development adds to the ongoing turmoil within the APC’s local factions.
Malam Ja’afar Ganduje, secretary of the newly formed ward executives, announced the suspension, citing alleged anti-party activities and a failure to meet party obligations as the main reasons for the action. “Records show Ganduje has not paid his legal dues to the party and has been contributing to the fractionalization of the party at the ward level, which has brought the APC into disrepute,” he explained. Ja’afar Ganduje also referred to the alleged anti-party conduct during the 2023 elections, which he claims led to the party’s significant losses in the state.
The emergence of these new ward executives is the latest twist in a series of internal conflicts within the APC’s Kano chapter. Malam Haladu Gwanjo, the legal advisor to a different APC faction, previously announced Ganduje’s suspension, also citing allegations of corruption and misconduct. However, some other factions, led by the ward chairman Malam Ahmad Ganduje, have shown their support for Abdullahi Ganduje, indicating a split within the party’s local leadership.
Ganduje, a former governor of Kano State, has been battling these internal disputes while attempting to maintain his position as the APC’s National Chairman. In response to his suspension, Ganduje sought legal protection, obtaining a court order that restrains party members from implementing the suspension and requires all parties to maintain the status quo until further legal proceedings. Justice A.M. Liman of the Kano State High Court granted the order, giving Ganduje a temporary reprieve.
The court’s decision has postponed any immediate effects of the new ward executives’ suspension announcement. Still, the party’s internal strife shows no sign of abating. The fresh round of suspensions and the emergence of new ward leadership has led to further questions about the stability and unity of the APC in Kano.
With the court set to hear the case on April 30, 2024, observers are watching closely to see how the party will navigate these turbulent times.
