“Nengi Has No Personal Relationship with Governor Diri” — Bayelsa Governor’s Aide Denies Pregnancy Rumor

Bayelsa State Governor Douye Diri has dismissed reports linking him to the pregnancy of reality TV star Nengi Hampson.

The speculation, which spread widely online, alleged that Nengi had given birth to a child for a 65-year-old governor and had even become his fifth wife. However, the governor’s media team has strongly denied the claims, calling them baseless and politically motivated.

Samuel Oredipe, the Director-General of New Media for the governor, addressed the issue in a Facebook post, labeling the reports as “fake news” spread by “wicked people” intent on damaging Diri’s reputation. He clarified that there is no personal relationship between the governor and Nengi, emphasizing that the claims were entirely false.

Oredipe further accused political opponents of attempting to distract from Diri’s achievements, particularly as his administration marked its fifth anniversary. He criticized social media platforms for enabling the spread of misinformation, stating that while the governor was inaugurating a new road in Yenagoa, falsehoods were being circulated online. He reaffirmed that Diri is a leader of “honor and dignity” and urged the public to disregard the rumors.

Meanwhile, Nengi also addressed the controversy, confirming her pregnancy but denying any involvement with Governor Diri.

Nengi first gained public attention in 2020 as a contestant on Big Brother Naija Season 5, which Laycon won. Following her time on the show, she was appointed as the Senior Special Assistant on Girl Child Development by the Bayelsa State government.
