NDLEA Officer Shot Dead During Raid in Ondo
A National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) officer, identified simply as Jide, has been shot dead during a drug raid in the Ita’nla area of Ondo town, Ondo State.
According to sources, the incident occurred early Tuesday morning when NDLEA operatives stormed a residential apartment following a tip-off that illegal substances were being stored in the ceiling of the building. During the operation, Officer Jide was reportedly stationed outside as a sentry while other team members entered the premises to retrieve the drugs.
Gunmen, suspected to be linked to the drug dealers, suddenly opened fire, shooting Jide in the neck. He was immediately rushed to the hospital, but medical personnel confirmed him dead on arrival.
Police spokesperson in the state, Olayinka Ayanlade, confirmed the killing and disclosed that four suspects have been arrested in connection with the attack. He added that a single barrel gun was recovered at the scene, and investigations are ongoing in collaboration with the NDLEA to apprehend everyone involved.
Efforts to reach the Ondo Command of the NDLEA for comment were unsuccessful at the time of this report.
