NDLEA Intercepts Cocaine Hidden in Prayer Beads, Shoes Bound for Holy Land

The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has intercepted a consignment of cocaine ingeniously concealed within prayer beads and locally made shoes. According to the agency, the items were being smuggled to the Holy Land during a period marked by spiritual devotion and religious pilgrimage.

Femi Babafemi, Director of Media and Advocacy for the NDLEA, made the disclosure in a statement accompanied by photos of the seized items. He described the attempt as a troubling exploitation of religious symbols during a sacred time.

“In this holy month when people are consecrating themselves and making supplications to their God, some persons were preoccupied with concealing cocaine in prayer beads and locally made shoes to desecrate the precincts of the Holy Land,” Babafemi stated.

He confirmed that the suspects were apprehended before they could leave the country, thanks to the vigilance of NDLEA officers. The agency has since launched a full investigation into the trafficking attempt.
