Natasha: Sen Nwebonyi Reacts to Reports of FG Filing Case Against Him
Senator Onyekachi Nwebonyi, representing Ebonyi North and serving as the Deputy Chief Whip of the Senate, has dismissed as false and mischievous a recent report alleging that the Federal Government filed a case against him at an Abuja High Court. The publication had claimed that the legal action was in connection with his alleged use of vile language against Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan of Kogi Central.
In a statement issued by his Special Assistant on Media and Publicity, Romanus Uzor, Senator Nwebonyi described the report as fabricated and the handiwork of attention seekers. He said the claim that the Federal Government had taken him to court was “mischievous, unfounded, and baseless.”
The lawmaker explained that it would be “legally illogical and procedurally impossible” for the same Federal Government to file a new case against him on an issue related to an ongoing criminal defamation suit previously instituted against Senator Natasha. He emphasized that there is no case pending between him and the Federal Government.
Nwebonyi accused political opponents and what he called “Natasha’s media trial team” of orchestrating a smear campaign aimed at tarnishing his reputation. He urged the public to disregard the “falsehood,” describing it as a deliberate attempt to mislead and create unnecessary political tension.
The senator reaffirmed his commitment to his legislative duties and to serving his constituents and the nation with integrity and focus.
