Nasarawa: Former Guber Candidate Ombugadu Quits APC After Three Weeks, Returns to PDP

 

A former governorship candidate of the David Ombugadu has left the All Progressives Congress (APC) just three weeks after joining the party, returning to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) over concerns tied to his political future ahead of the 2027 elections.

 

Ombugadu confirmed his resignation in a letter dated March 24, 2026, addressed to the APC chairman of Ika/Wangibi Ward in Nasarawa Eggon Local Government Area of Nasarawa State. In the letter, he stated that he was rejoining the PDP, which he described as his political base.

 

He said his decision followed concerns about internal political arrangements he believes were being positioned against his governorship ambition in 2027.

 

The politician had recently joined the APC and was formally received on March 2, 2026, at the Government House in Lafia. The reception was attended by Governor Abdullahi Sule, former governors Abdullahi Adamu and Umaru Tanko Al-Makura, alongside senior party figures.

 

His latest move marks another shift in a political journey that has moved between both major parties over the years. Ombugadu had been in the PDP since 2014 after leaving the defunct Congress for Progressive Change, and remained there through his governorship bids in 2019 and 2023 before his brief defection to the APC.
