Naomi Osaka surpasses Serena Williams as world’s highest paid female athlete
Japan’s Naomi Osaka has gone ahead of America’s Serena Williams as the world’s highest paid female athlete.
She raked in a total of $37.4million in prize money and endorsements in the last year, setting an all-time earnings record for a female athlete in a single year.
Naomi Osaka earned $1.4million more than Serena Williams who had topped the list for the last four years.
Naomi burst into limelight by beating Serena in the 2018 US open finals. The Japanese then won the 2019 Australian open.
Osaka ranks No29 among the 100 highest paid athletes, while Williams is No33. This is the first time since 2016 that two women have made the ranks of top 100 highest paid athletes.
