NAFDAC Recalls Nivea Black & White Deodorant Over Harmful Chemical Concerns
In a move to protect public health, the National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) has issued an urgent recall for Nivea BLACK & WHITE Invisible Roll-on deodorant due to the detection of a hazardous chemical ingredient.
The affected product contains 2-(4-tert-Butylbenzyl) propionaldehyde (BMHCA), a chemical banned in cosmetics for its harmful effects. This ingredient is linked to serious health risks, including potential reproductive harm, risks to fetal development, and the possibility of causing skin irritation or burns in users.
NAFDAC specified that the recall applies to Nivea BLACK & WHITE Invisible Roll-on, 50ml size, produced in Germany. The recalled batch is marked with Batch Number: 93529610 and Bar Code Number: 42299882. The agency issued this alert on Thursday, emphasizing that distributors, retailers, and consumers should immediately halt the sale and use of products from this batch.
To safeguard public health, NAFDAC has called for heightened awareness across the supply chain. The agency advises that anyone in possession of this product should cease its use and return any remaining stock to the nearest NAFDAC office.
