“Na Your Mama Be This Oo”: Delta Nursing Student Queried for Ridiculing First Lady in Viral Video
Delta State College of Nursing has issued a query to one of its students, Osato Edobor, over her involvement in a viral video mocking Nigeria’s First Lady, Oluremi Tinubu. The college has also threatened disciplinary action against her.
A document signed by the college provost, Evbodaghe Rita Ogonne, and widely circulated online on Friday, accused Ms. Edobor of recording and sharing a video in which student nurses rejected Mrs. Tinubu as their mother. The school has given her 24 hours to respond to the query.
According to the letter, the incident occurred on March 25, 2025, during Mrs. Tinubu’s visit to the Dome Event Center in Asaba for the Renewed Hope Initiative Health Programme. The event included the distribution of 10,000 professional kits to midwives across Nigeria’s South-South region. The college stated that Ms. Edobor’s actions violated the student handbook, describing her behavior as a punishable offense.
The controversy stems from a widely shared video showing student nurses responding defiantly to a praise song meant to honor the First Lady. During the event, an MC led the audience in a chant, calling Mrs. Tinubu their “mother.” Instead of affirming the chant, the students replied, “Na your mama be this oo,” rejecting the claim. When the MC repeated the song, adding Mrs. Tinubu’s name, the students responded in the same manner, reinforcing their refusal.
