‘Na Our Mama Be This oo’ – Super Falcons Praise First Lady Remi Tinubu at Presidential Villa
The Super Falcons celebrated their historic victory at the 2025 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations with a warm and spirited tribute to Nigeria’s First Lady, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, during a reception at the Presidential Villa on Monday. As they arrived and again before the First Lady’s remarks, the team broke into the now-popular chant, “Na our mama be this o,” drawing smiles from their host and reinforcing a message of gratitude and unity.
The chant, which translates as “This is our mother,” resonated differently this time, following a previous controversy earlier in the year when students at the Delta State College of Nursing Sciences rejected the phrase during a separate event. That incident, at the Renewed Hope Initiative Health Outreach in Asaba, saw students respond with “Na your mama be this,” sparking debate over the First Lady’s symbolic role.
However, the Super Falcons’ use of the chant was clearly celebratory, highlighting their appreciation for Senator Tinubu’s support and presence. She, in turn, praised the team’s discipline and resilience, expressing pride in their triumph and their role as ambassadors of the nation.
President Bola Tinubu and the First Lady welcomed the squad days after their dramatic 3-2 victory over Morocco, which sealed Nigeria’s 10th WAFCON title. The win adds to the country’s legacy in women’s football, with previous championships secured in 2014, 2016, 2018, and 2024.
