N70,000 Minimum Wage Means More Work from FCTA Workers – Wike

Nyesom Wike, the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), has called on workers of the FCT Administration to increase their productivity following the implementation of the N70,000 minimum wage. Speaking in Abuja on Tuesday during an inspection of the ongoing construction of the Abuja Division of the Court of Appeal access road and the Airport Road to Kuje expressway, Mr. Wike emphasized the need for greater commitment from workers.

The minister highlighted that the wage increase aligns with President Bola Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda, which aims to enhance the welfare of Nigerian workers. He noted that the FCT Administration had not only adopted the new minimum wage but also approved the payment of arrears in line with agreements reached with labor unions.

“In line with that, we have also adopted the N70,000 minimum wage and approved the payment of the arrears as agreed with the labour union,” he said. “I expect that the workers will also see this as a boost and be more committed for us to achieve the development required in the city.”

Mr. Wike urged workers to view the wage increase not merely as a financial benefit but as a motivator for heightened dedication to their duties. “So, workers should not live like, ‘Oh, money has been paid’. It means more work is expected from you,” he stressed.

Grace Adayilo, the acting head of civil service for the FCT, had earlier announced the approval of the new wage and arrears in a statement, further solidifying the FCT Administration’s commitment to improving worker welfare.
