“N100 Million Paid by Anambra State Government into Former IGP’s Son’s Account by Mistake, Returned” — Police
The Nigeria Police Force (NPF) has clarified that N100 million intended for the Anambra State Government’s security vote was mistakenly transferred into the personal account of Victor Egbetokun, son of outgoing Inspector-General of Police Kayode Egbetokun, and has since been returned.
Speaking on Politics Today, police spokesperson Benjamin Hundeyin said the young man immediately reported the deposit. “He said he saw N100 million in his account, and he told his accounts officer to reverse the money immediately, which he did,” Hundeyin said.
He added that Victor printed his account statement and confirmed the reversal. “The young man was forced to close down that account. He has written a petition to the EFCC for that allegation to be investigated,” Hundeyin said.
The police described the incident as a mistaken transaction, noting that the funds were returned to the Anambra State Government’s account shortly after detection. Hundeyin emphasized that the situation was promptly corrected and that no wrongdoing occurred on Victor Egbetokun’s part.
