“My Own People Attacked Me Because I Converted to Christianity” — Plateau Pastor Alleges
A Fulani man who converted from Islam to Christianity and now serves as a pastor has alleged that members of his ethnic group attempted to kill him for abandoning his former faith.
In a video circulating on social media, Pastor Adamu Musa—who has lived in the Miango community in Bassa Local Government Area of Plateau State for more than 17 years—recounted a series of violent attacks he has suffered, allegedly at the hands of Fulani militants.
According to Pastor Musa, the attackers have repeatedly targeted communities in Miango, killing residents, destroying farmlands, and taking over ancestral lands. He claimed that his own kinsmen turned against him after his conversion, accusing him of betraying their faith and traditions.
“My name is Pastor Adamu Musa. I am a Fulani man who converted from Islam to Christianity,” he said in the video. “I have lived among the Miango people for over 17 years. My people have tried to kill me several times because I chose to follow Christ and because I preach to them to stop attacking others.”
He narrated one such attack, explaining that he was ambushed and shot while riding his motorcycle. In another incident, his house was set on fire.
“Last year, they burnt down my house, and this year they shot me again,” he said. “But I thank God for sparing my life. My prayer is that God will change their hearts and help them understand the truth.”
Pastor Musa urged Christians in the area to remain vigilant and protect themselves, lamenting what he described as the failure of security agencies to safeguard communities in the region.
“We don’t have any problem with them,” he added. “We have never provoked the Fulani, yet they keep attacking us. The soldiers are not helping us at all.”
