“My Enemies Are Using Regina’s Condition to Blackmail Me” — Nwoko
Senator Ned Nwoko, representing Delta North, has accused a group he described as a “pull-down-Ned syndicate” of using the situation involving his wife, actress Regina Daniels, to malign his reputation.
In a statement released by his Communication and Technical Action Team in Abuja, Nwoko said that individuals who had long targeted him were now exploiting the actress’s condition to discredit him both locally and internationally. He described the campaign as a coordinated attempt to destroy his image.
Addressing recent allegations of land grabbing in his hometown, Nwoko said the claims were false. He explained that he was legally allocated the land where he established the University of Sports, emphasizing that the institution benefits the community. “Anyone who seeks progress is often attacked by their own people,” he said, lamenting what he called a culture of tearing down achievers.
The senator further alleged that some people were taking advantage of “a young woman who is unwell and has admitted to using drugs.” He claimed that Regina’s history of substance use was documented and that those manipulating her would face justice for defamation. “If by now she has not made any credible allegations against me, it means there is nothing illegal about me,” he stated, adding that his only wish was for her to seek rehabilitation.
Nwoko insisted that Regina’s medical and personal history was public knowledge, pointing to past admissions she made about drug use and mental health treatment. He accused detractors of spreading fabricated stories to damage his reputation, warning that they would have to prove their claims in court.
On the controversy surrounding the timing of his marriage to Regina, Nwoko clarified that she was born in October 2000 and married him at 19, not 17. He said her family willingly gave her hand in marriage and that her mother personally brought her to him.
According to the senator, his marriage to Regina was transparent and rooted in cultural tradition. He described his relationship with her as affectionate and respectful, saying he cared deeply for her. “It is disheartening to read all the falsehoods being spread online,” he added. “Regina has become a weak point through which my political and personal enemies attack me.”
Nwoko concluded that his decision to marry Regina according to tradition had been twisted into a political weapon. He called the situation a continuation of the witch-hunt against him, aimed at undermining his political progress and achievements as a senator.
