Miyetti Allah Leader, Bello Bodejo, Sues FG Over Detention
Bello Bodejo, the detained leader of Miyetti Allah Kautal Hore, has initiated legal proceedings by filing a motion before the Federal High Court in Abuja, seeking his unconditional release from the custody of the Defence Intelligence Agency.
Bodejo’s counsel, Mohammed Sheriff, informed the court that the motion was lodged to uphold his client’s fundamental rights, emphasizing that multiple attempts were made to secure his release pending formal charges.
Despite previous court orders, Bodejo has reportedly spent 43 days in detention without any charges being brought against him in a court of competent jurisdiction, as argued by Sheriff during the court proceedings.
Responding to the motion, Y. A. Imana, counsel for the Attorney General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, explained to the court that the National Intelligence Agency (NIA) had not yet forwarded Bodejo’s file to the ministry due to complications in the investigation process.
Imana cited challenges in obtaining duplicate copies, hindering the ministry’s ability to proceed with the prosecution, despite three letters sent to the NIA urging cooperation.
Bodejo was apprehended on January 23 at the Miyetti Allah office in Karu Local Government Area of Nasarawa State, following the disclosure of a vigilante group by the Fulani socio-cultural organization. The hearing for Badejo’s motion is scheduled for March 13, as confirmed by Justice Inyang Ekwo.
