Following the record of the 10-months strike by the Academic Staff Union of Universities, ASUU, and the resultant effect on the educational ecosystem. The Federal Government has instructed that schools can reopen from the 18th of January, 2021.

Incidentally, the Management of the Lagos State University shut down the College of Medicine hostels after three students tested positive to the coronavirus. There is the fact that the coronavirus second wave continues to ravage the nation badly with 1479 new cases and 24 deaths, highest recorded within a 24 hour period.

Many have expressed concern over the directives by the government for schools to resume and concurrently calling for social distancing in the same breath. The COVID-19 infections currently stand at 105,478. Also one out of 6 people who were tested by the NCDC tested positive for the virus within the past two weeks.
