“Misconduct Will Not Be Tolerated” — IGP Olatunji Disu Issues Warning to Police Officers

The Inspector-General of Police (IGP), Olatunji Disu, has cautioned officers of the Nigeria Police Force (NPF) that any engagement in corruption, abuse of power, or indiscipline will be met with strict disciplinary action, including dismissal.

Speaking on Wednesday at the inaugural strategic meeting with senior police managers in Abuja’s Peacekeeping Conference Hall, Disu emphasized that no officer is above the law. He described the gathering as the start of a new administrative phase focused on professionalism, accountability, and public trust.

Disu outlined priorities for the Force, stressing the protection of lives and property, respect for human rights, and integrity in all operations. He announced plans to strengthen internal oversight bodies, including the Force Provost, Complaints Response Unit, and X-Squad, giving them independence to address misconduct decisively.

He highlighted reforms in recruitment and training to ensure qualified personnel are enlisted and continuous professional development keeps officers prepared for evolving security challenges. Community policing will be reinforced, with commissioners urged to engage local communities, traditional institutions, and civil society groups.

Regarding the 2027 general elections, the IGP assured that the NPF will remain neutral and professional, protecting voters, election officials, and infrastructure. Any officer involved in partisan activity or electoral violations will face disciplinary measures.

Disu also committed to improving officer welfare, including housing, remuneration, and healthcare, linking better conditions to higher morale and operational effectiveness.

Senior officers present included Deputy Inspectors-General Frank Mba, Yahaya Abubakar, Basil Idgwu, Bzigu Kwazhi, Idris Abubakar, Adewole William, and Adeola Hamzat. The meeting marks a defining moment in Disu’s tenure as he seeks to restore public confidence and enforce discipline within the Force.
