In a show of approval and gratitude, leaders hailing from the North-Central geopolitical zone have lauded President Bola Tinubu for his demonstrated “spirit of fairness” in the selection of ministers for government roles.
Under the collective banner of the League of Middle Belt Bishops, the leaders, led by Alli John Alli, also put forth a request to President Tinubu, urging him to consider Moses Ayom as an ambassador-designate to China.
In an official letter addressed to the Presidency on Monday, Alli highlighted that Ayom hailed from Benue state and appealed to key figures such as the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), George Akume, and Governor Hyacinth Alia, to lend their support to the plea for Ayom’s appointment.
In their communication, which was also copied to governors of the North-Central zone, the leaders emphasized Ayom’s qualifications, asserting that he held an advantageous position over other potential nominees for the position due to his exceptional credentials.
Titled ‘Before it is too late,’ the letter underscored, “We, the united body of Middle Belt Bishops, are once again here to extend commendation to the president for his impartial appointments thus far. However, it is important to recall that High Chief Moses Ayom led the campaign for a Middle Belt presidency but later relinquished his aspiration to wholeheartedly support President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, who currently holds the presidential office.”
Furthermore, the letter elaborated, “Ayom has consistently demonstrated unwavering love and dedication to this nation, given the strong relationship and understanding that has endured between the Middle Belt and Southwest regions since the days of Chief Obafemi Awolowo.”
Urging President Tinubu to also consider a political appointment for Ayom, the group conveyed, “We firmly believe that this would be the least that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, Sen. George Akume, and Rev Fr Dr Hyacinth Iormem Alia could do to honor Chief Moses, acknowledging his immeasurable contributions.”
