Met With Backlash, Buhari’s Aide Recants, Deletes Tweet After Promising to Assist Man Jailed For Abducting 13-year-old Bayelsa Girl

Bashir Ahmad, the Personal Assistant on New Media to President Muhammadu Buhari, has recanted after he promised to intervene in the case of Yunusa Dahiru who was recently sentenced to 26 years in jail for child trafficking and other crimes by a federal high court in Yenogoa, the Bayelsa state capital.

A Twitter user had appealed to Ahmad to help secure Dahiru’s release adding that he was wrongly accused of the crimes as the court judgement was manipulated. The Presidential aide who replied in Hausa language said he does not have powers to change the verdict of the country but promised to contact those that can assist.

13-year-old girl, Ese Oruru was taken from her home in Bayelsa on August 12, 2015 by Dahiru to Kano where she was married to him and her name changed to Aisha, having been converted to Islam.
