Mercy Johnson Secures New Political Appointment

Edo State Governor, Monday Okpebholo, has appointed Nollywood actress Mercy Johnson-Okojie as Special Adviser on Public Engagement and Advocacy.

The appointment was disclosed on Thursday in a statement issued by the Secretary to the State Government, Musa Ikhilor. According to the statement, the decision is aimed at improving communication between the state government and residents.

The government said Johnson-Okojie’s role will focus on strengthening public engagement around policies and programmes, as well as broadening citizen participation.

Johnson-Okojie has built a career in Nollywood spanning nearly two decades, featuring in more than 200 films as an actress and producer. Beyond her film work, she runs the Mercy Johnson Okojie Foundation, which supports initiatives in women’s empowerment, child welfare, education, and healthcare.

The statement added that she is expected to use her public profile and community reach to support the administration’s engagement efforts.

Her husband, Odianosen Okogie, represents Esan North East/South East Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives.
