Meet 18-Year-Old Nigerian-American in the US Who Received Admission Offers from Six Ivy League Schools
Eighteen-year-old Osariemen Unuigbe, a Nigerian-American student from New Jersey, has secured admission offers from six prestigious Ivy League universities in the United States, including Harvard and Yale. This extraordinary accomplishment highlights her exceptional academic performance and relentless dedication to excellence.
Unuigbe, currently a senior at Egg Harbor Township High School, is the daughter of Nigerian immigrants from Edo State, Dr. Augustine Unuigbe and Dr. Florence Unuigbe. In response to their daughter’s remarkable achievement, her family expressed overwhelming joy, stating, “We are elated, surprised, but absolutely delighted. We can only give all the glory to God for this great miracle.”
Beyond her academic prowess, Unuigbe has shown strong leadership abilities and was accepted into the highly competitive Governor’s School of New Jersey. She has also taken on several leadership roles at her high school, further demonstrating her commitment to both academic excellence and community involvement.
Unuigbe is not only focused on her studies but also actively participates in extracurricular activities. She is a lacrosse player and has a passion for dancing, painting, and drawing. Her multifaceted interests and talents have earned her recognition, including being named a 2025 “Rising to the Top” scholar by the National Coalition of 100 Black Women, Inc., Southern New Jersey Chapter.
Her achievement comes at a time when Nigerian students are making significant strides in U.S. higher education. According to the Open Doors Report on International Educational Exchange, the number of Nigerian students enrolled in U.S. colleges and universities reached 20,029 in the 2023/2024 academic year, reflecting a 13.5 percent increase from previous years. The report emphasizes that Nigerian students bring diverse perspectives and academic excellence to U.S. campuses, enriching the educational experience for all.
