Massive EFCC Operation Nets 48 Suspected Internet Fraudsters in Asaba

 

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) achieved a major breakthrough in its ongoing battle against cybercrime as operatives from the Benin Zonal Command apprehended 48 individuals suspected of engaging in internet fraud. The arrests were made in Asaba, Delta State, on Friday, October 6, 2023.

The arrests came as a result of diligent intelligence work, with the suspects taken into custody at various locations across Asaba.

During the operation, law enforcement officers seized a total of nine luxury vehicles, including three Mercedes Benz GLK 350s, a Toyota Camry SE, two Lexus RX 350s, and two Toyota Camry LEs, along with a Mercedes Benz GLA 250 4Matic. Additionally, several mobile phones and laptops were confiscated.

The suspects have already provided valuable information during interrogations and will face charges in court once investigations are concluded. The EFCC’s continued efforts to combat internet fraud and cybercrime demonstrate its commitment to safeguarding the digital space and upholding the rule of law in Nigeria.
