Mandatory Metre Upgrade: EEDC Sets Date for Token Identifier (TID) Rollover

Enugu Electricity Distribution Company (EEDC) has officially announced its plan to commence the Token Identifier (TID) rollover by the end of February 2024. Emeka Ezeh, the Head of Corporate Communications at EEDC, conveyed this vital information over the weekend through an official statement, emphasizing the importance for electricity consumers within the company’s franchise to upgrade their meters promptly.

The mandatory upgrade applies to all prepaid meter customers, with strict compliance urged to avoid meter loss and disruption in power supply. Following the rollover, the first energy purchase will include three sets of 20-digit tokens: KCT1, KCT2, and the energy token.

Explaining the process, Ezeh outlined, “Customers are expected to input the first 20 digits (KCT1) to reset the meter, followed by inputting the second 20 digits (KCT2) to upgrade the meter. Finally, the third set of 20 digits, the energy token, completes the recharge and overall upgrade process.”

This announcement follows EEDC’s previous notification to customers that, effective 24th November 2024, all prepaid meters in its network will no longer accept credit tokens unless they have undergone the necessary upgrade. The Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission has also echoed the call for electricity consumers to undertake the meter upgrades at no additional cost.
