Man Sets Himself Ablaze Near Israel’s Embassy in the U.S. Capital

In a shocking incident on Sunday afternoon, a man set himself on fire outside the Israeli embassy in Washington, DC, in what appears to be a protest. The individual’s identity remains unknown at this time.

Emergency services responded swiftly around 1 p.m. (1800 GMT), with Secret Service members extinguishing the flames. The protester sustained life-threatening injuries and was promptly transported to a local hospital for medical attention.

Israel’s foreign ministry has confirmed to The Times of Israel that no other individuals were harmed during the incident. As a precautionary measure, investigators searched the man’s vehicle.

This marks the second self-immolation incident outside an Israeli building in the U.S. during Israel’s conflict with Hamas in Gaza. A similar incident occurred on December 1 when a woman set herself on fire outside the Israeli consulate in Atlanta, resulting in injuries to a security guard who intervened.

The motive behind these acts of self-immolation and the connection to the ongoing conflicts remain unclear. Investigations are ongoing, and the international community watches closely for further developments.
