Man Arrested at Kano Airport with Over $420,000 in Undeclared Foreign Currency
The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has launched an investigation into the arrest of Ahmad Salisu, who was intercepted by the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) at the Mallam Aminu Kano International Airport for allegedly concealing large sums of undeclared foreign currency. Salisu was apprehended during a routine luggage inspection, where Customs officials discovered \$420,900, £5,825, 3,946,500 West African CFA francs, and 224,000 Cameroonian CFA francs hidden inside a polythene bag wrapped in cloth and other fabrics.
According to a statement issued in Abuja by EFCC spokesperson Dele Oyewale, Salisu claimed he was transporting the cash on behalf of his brother, Auwal Ahmad, who is currently in Saudi Arabia. The money was reportedly intended for two individuals, Yusuf Adamu and Abdulhamid Rabiu, who were also arrested when they arrived to collect the funds.
The NCS has since handed over all three suspects along with the seized cash to the EFCC for further investigation and possible prosecution.
