Makinde, Damagum, SamDaddy, Abure, Apapa, Others May Be Considering Defection to ADC – Adeyanju

Activist lawyer Deji Adeyanju has alleged that key political figures across the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and Labour Party may be considering defection to the African Democratic Congress (ADC), following the party’s adoption by a newly formed opposition coalition.

In a post on X, Adeyanju named Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde, acting PDP National Chairman Umar Damagum, PDP National Secretary Samuel Anyanwu, popularly known as SamDaddy, Labour Party National Chairman Julius Abure, and factional Labour leader Lamidi Apapa among those he believes could be weighing their political options.

“Damagun, SamDaddy, Makinde, Julius Abure, Lamidi Apapa and co will be wondering whether they should defect to ADC so they can continue the good job of Asiwaju,” Adeyanju wrote. He added, “The coalition squad is mad! Everyone is at the unveiling. Very happy with the opposition leaders.”

His comments came in reaction to the official unveiling of the ADC as the adopted political platform for the Opposition Coalition Group at the Yar’Adua Centre in Abuja. The event saw the attendance of several heavyweight politicians, including former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, former Senate President David Mark, former Interior Minister Rauf Aregbesola, former Kaduna State Governor Nasir El-Rufai, Labour Party’s 2023 presidential candidate Peter Obi, and former Rivers State Governor Rotimi Amaechi.

Aregbesola was also announced as the interim National Secretary of the ADC during the unveiling, a move that signals a significant power shift within opposition politics.

Despite ideological differences and past rivalries, the coalition’s adoption of ADC is seen as an attempt to forge a united front against the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) ahead of the 2027 general elections.
