Major Shake-up: Governor Dissolves Cabinet, Retains Few Key Officials Ahead of Guber Poll

Ekiti State Governor Biodun Oyebanji has announced the dissolution of the State Executive Council in a sweeping cabinet shake-up. The decision, conveyed late Sunday night through a statement by the Secretary to the State Government, Prof. Habibat Adubiaro, takes immediate effect. Commissioners and Special Advisers affected by the move have been directed to hand over to the Permanent Secretary or the most senior civil servant in their ministries, departments, and agencies. The governor expressed appreciation to the outgoing officials for their service and wished them well in their future endeavours.

Several key members of the cabinet will, however, remain in office. These include the Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice, as well as the Commissioners for Health and Human Services; Agriculture and Food Security; Education; Works; and Trade, Investment, Industry, and Cooperatives. Also exempted are the Special Adviser on Special Education and Social Inclusion and the Special Adviser on Lands, Survey, and e-GIS.

In addition, the Director General of the Office of Transformation and Service Delivery, the Director General of the SDGs and Project Monitoring, and the Director General of the Bureau of Public Procurement have been retained. While no official reason was given for the dissolution, political observers suggest it may be connected to the upcoming gubernatorial primaries set for October 2, 2025.
