Maiduguri: Seyi Tinubu, Friends Donate ₦500m to Flood Victims
Seyi Tinubu, the son of Nigeria’s president, led a delegation to Maiduguri, the Borno State capital, on Friday to provide support for victims of the recent devastating floods. Tinubu, accompanied by his brother, Yinka Tinubu, and a group of associates, made a substantial donation of over ₦500 million, aimed at alleviating the suffering of flood victims.
During the visit, Tinubu emphasized that this was the first step in an ongoing effort to assist the people of Borno, especially the youth affected by the disaster. He assured the public that support would continue until Maiduguri and the entire state “saw the light again.”
This visit comes shortly after President Bola Tinubu, along with other dignitaries, had toured Borno earlier in the week, showing solidarity with the flood-affected communities.
While addressing Governor Babagana Zulum and other dignitaries at the state government house, Seyi Tinubu commended the resilience of the people of Borno, who have endured years of insecurity and are now facing yet another crisis. He expressed confidence that the state would emerge stronger from this latest challenge.
“We are here today, not just as representatives of our family but as part of a collective effort by young Nigerians to bring hope and relief to those who need it most,” Tinubu said. He added that Maiduguri’s rich history and the bravery of its people in the face of adversity made it imperative for Nigerians to rally in support.
Inspired by a call to action made by President Bola Tinubu earlier in the week, Seyi Tinubu and his wife Layal, through their Noella Foundation, along with private sector partners, have mobilized resources to swiftly respond to the needs of those displaced by the floods.
The donation included essential food items such as rice, maize, flour, and thousands of loaves of bread, as well as sanitary supplies, blankets, mosquito nets, mattresses, and wash kits. In addition, they provided critical medical supplies, including antimalarials, antihypertensives, antiparasitics, and antibiotics, to cover prescriptions for nearly 50,000 children and adults.
Speaking on behalf of the donors, Tinubu expressed his gratitude to Governor Zulum for his leadership during the crisis and pledged continued support, noting that the Nigerian youth stand in solidarity with the people of Borno. “In unity, there is strength,” Tinubu said, echoing his father’s message of hope during his recent visit. “Borno will rise again.”
Chidi, a transport and logistics expert accompanying Tinubu, praised him for his unwavering commitment to young Nigerians, while Isaac Balami, a renowned aviator, described Seyi Tinubu as a man of empathy who has always been dedicated to supporting the youth and his country.
