Luxury SUV Deemed ‘Unstealable’ by Dealer Stolen 60 Hours After Purchase

In a startling incident, a Warwickshire resident’s newly purchased luxury SUV, deemed “unstealable” by the dealership, was stolen from his driveway within 60 hours of ownership. John, 45, acquired a £183,000 ($227,000) Range Rover 2024 SV Edition One from a Coventry dealership on December 14, 2024. This limited edition vehicle, with only 550 units released in the UK, boasted £10,000 graphite wheels and a high-tech interior.

Despite concerns about potential thefts, John was reassured by dealership staff that the vehicle’s new Jaguar Land Rover (JLR) security upgrade rendered it unstealable. He even inquired about installing a Ghost Immobiliser, which requires a password to start the vehicle, but was advised it was unnecessary.

However, less than 60 hours after bringing the SUV home, John discovered it missing from his driveway. CCTV footage revealed that around 1 am, a car dropped off three individuals. Two approached the SUV while the third acted as a lookout. Without using a key scanner or breaking a window, they managed to access and start the vehicle within 15 minutes before driving away.

John expressed his disbelief, stating, “They did not come near to the house with a scanning device to get a key signal; whatever they did was more sophisticated than this.” He has since lodged a complaint with Jaguar Land Rover, citing a “catastrophic failure of the security system advertised as state-of-the-art.” In response, a JLR spokesperson stated that the company will not consider reviewing any claims of responsibility, emphasizing that car theft is a risk all owners face.
