Lt Yerima: FCT Police Refute Viral Claims of Attack on Naval Officer During Stop-and-Search Operation (Video)
The FCT Police Command has rejected social-media claims that a naval officer, Lt. Ahmed Yerima, was assaulted during a stop-and-search operation at the NNPC junction on the Kubwa Expressway. According to the Command, the narratives spreading online misrepresent what actually occurred and were described as both false and misleading.
Police said the incident happened on November 16 around 6:15 p.m., when a patrol team halted an ash-coloured Toyota Camry with a concealed number plate and fully tinted windows. Officers requested the driver’s identity and an explanation for the vehicle’s concealments, but the occupant reportedly refused to cooperate, instead making several phone calls and winding up the windows.
The Command explained that three naval personnel later arrived at the scene, identified the driver as their colleague, and recorded parts of the interaction before departing. With the situation clarified, officers allowed the vehicle to continue its journey and resumed their operation without further issues. Police expressed surprise that the encounter was later portrayed online as an attack or assassination attempt.
The Commissioner of Police urged residents to work with security personnel during routine checks and avoid circulating unverified stories that could inflame public anxiety. The Command also encouraged citizens to report suspicious activity via its emergency lines.
